Between Andrew Yang and the White House stands Iowa. For Yang to remain in, and eventually win, the Democratic primary, he needs 15% of the Iowan vote. This is necessary in order to secure any delegates. Without 15%, the race is essentially over. In addition, if 15% is reached, Yang’s position as a viable candidate will become fixed in the public eye, having a domino effect from the early primaries to the end of the race.
Currently, RCP suggests that Yang is polling at 2% in Iowa. This does not call for a conventional or small-scale campaign approach, but instead calls for the mass-mobilization of ready and willing Yang Gang members from across the country.
The purpose of Yang Week is to fully secure at least 15% for Andrew Yang in Iowa. #YangWeek will bring as many Yang supporters as possible to Iowa for a single week of mass, concentrated, effective campaigning.
In many ways the national Yang Gang is an untapped resource. We make more noise online than any other support base, exactly because we are more committed to doing everything we can. It is time to ask the most of the Yang Gang, at exactly the right time, and in exactly the right place.
This event is neither funded nor organised by the campaign.
Des Moines will be our meeting point at the beginning of Yang Week – the afternoon of Jan 5. From there, we will be sent out in smaller cells to different parts of Iowa, where we will stay for the rest of Yang Week. As you do not yet know your assigned cell or zone, we advise you to not book your housing just yet!
Groups of approximately ten campaigners (two carloads or a minibus) who travel together, live together in the same place, and work together for the duration of Yang Week.
In charge of cells. Report to Directors.
A group will consist of approximately ten cells managed by a Director, who will be selected and trained from Iowa-based and early volunteers. Directors will direct day-to-day work of the groups, be responsible for solving minor problems and for reporting data and major problems to a higher level of authority.
In charge of groups. Report to Managers.
In charge of specific organisational functions, such as logistics or media. Report to Managers.
Executive function over the project, its Officers, and its Directors.
Occupied by Cells. The state will be divided into Zones, which will each be covered by a Cell of approximately ten campaigners and their Captain. The entirety of a zone is within reach of a single accommodation occupied by a cell for the duration of the week. Zone size also varies in accordance with population size.
Occupied by Groups. The state will be divided into Areas which Groups will cover. Directors will manage each, giving direction and support to cell Captains.
A center in Des Moines – a hotel suite or a short-term office rental – where Directors can be based and data can be pooled. It will also be useful to have a storage site for campaign literature.
What To Expect
In the weeks leading up to Yang Week, every participating Yangster will be sent information on the schedule and plan for Yang Week. Each Cell will be trained for campaigning by its Captain and each Captain will be trained by their Director. You can also expect a big event on the first and last days of Yang Week, when all the traveling Yangsters will be together.
